Los Cabos holds the distinction of being the original California, a name inspired by the mythical land, ruled by La reina Calafia, a warrior queen from a 16th-century Spanish novel. This mythical origin lent its name to the entire region, forever connecting Los Cabos to a sense of wonder and legend.

Its birth begins millions of years ago with the formation of the peninsula, shaped by tectonic forces and geological evolution. Evidence of human settlement dates back at least ten thousand years, when the first inhabitants left behind stunning cave paintings and funerary rites in caves, bearing witness to their deep connection to this land. By the time the Spaniards arrived in 1535, the Pericúes, an indigenous tribe, had established a thriving way of life based on fishing, hunting, and gathering.

The region's history also weaves through tales of high-seas adventure, as pirates once prowled these waters during the height of Spanish exploration, seeking treasure-laden galleons traveling along the Pacific trade routes. These exploits left a mark not only on local history but also on the region’s sense of mystery and wonder.

In 1730, Jesuit missionaries founded the San José del Cabo mission, a pivotal moment in the region’s colonial development. This blending of indigenous and European influences laid the foundation for Los Cabos' identity, further enriched by the ranching communities that adapted to the harsh yet beautiful desert landscape.
